True Italian Experience
The family introduced Pizzetta’s on Valentine’s Day, a fitting time considering the group’s love affair with Italian Food. Sal & Wife Michele Lucido and cousin Vito and wife Lori Lucchese opened Pizzetta’s in the former Cosmo’s Pizza in Anderson Square shopping center, 4107 Oleander Dr.
All food items are prepared with the “Old Country’s” sauce and cheeses’ to make the best family recipes handed down over the years.
A few pizza items on the menu are myriad pizzas – Margarita, grilled vegetable, sausage and broccoli rabe, even one with a crisp lettuce, tomato, olive, and onion salad on top, and chicken Marsala pie fresh and hot from the oven. Besides pizza, they offer calzones, Stromboli, heroes, salads, rice balls, soups, gelato, Italian ice and all sorts of pasta and hot entrees, including lasagna, stuffed shells, eggplant parmigiana, and pasta Alfredo, bolognese and vodka sauce, to name a few sauces. There is a full line of entress: Pasta with choice of spaghetti, penne, linguini, or rigatoni: Baked Pasta, Soups and salads, and of course desserts ( Italian Ice, Zeppole, Gelato, & Cannoli). Home made pudding & home made cheesecake. And the options keep coming.
A tray mounded with garlic knots, shiny with olive oil and rich with Parmesan cheese, Spirals (Pin wheels) were wrapped around so much pepperoni or spinach, each oozing with warm mozzarella cheese. Sprinkled confectioners’ sugar on puffy Zeppole, an Italian version of fried doughnuts.
“These remind me of home” Sal said, describing how his Sicilian family ate these sweets each year on Christmas.
Sal and Vito from Sicilian families. The families came to Wilmington from New York, and each man has worked in food service, notably Sal who is the main pizza guy from Osteria Cicchetti when it opened in The Forum.
